The Generali USA Life Reassurance Company can trace its roots to the Business Men’s Assurance Company of America (BMA), which began selling life insurance in 1909 and reinsurance in 1922. By 1941, the Business Men’s Assurance Company had grown its reinsurance business substantially, establishing an entire reinsurance division.

Over the next 50 years, they continued to grow and refine their offerings, adding a wide variety of insurance products to their portfolio, including mainstream life and annuity programs. In 1990, they were acquired by Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A. (Generali). In 2003, Generali exited the U.S. direct insurance marketplace to focus its attention on the core reinsurance operation. This operation was placed in a newly purchased company that became known as Generali USA.

Today, Generali USA continues to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Assicurazioni Generali. It is licensed or accredited for reinsurance in all 50 states. And just like in 1922, we still work with each customer individually to solve their financial challenges. We are proud of our 89-year history of providing reinsurance to the many businesses who rely on us for our stability and financial strength.
